The picturesque beach of Spartia with the large clay rock called Hatzoklis, a truly admirable natural phenomenon, is situated at a distance of 50 metres from the houses. A number of taverns and bars , where one can have a good time, exists in the area.

It takes one about 15 minutes to drive from Vigla to the airport as well as to Argostoli, the capital of the island.

First of all, the Ionian Sea lay before one’s eyes as far as the coast of Zante to the south, which is clearly visible when the weather is fair. East the mountain range of Ainos rises in an imposing way out of the sea. West several creeks extend for half a mile (as far as the cape of Liakas) being suitable for fishing, diving and sailing. Furthermore, a golden exotic tiny beach with crystal clear blue waters is accessible from Vigla village through a small paved path.

In the Middle Ages Mediterranean islands were tormented by pirates. For this reason, people used to post guards on rises near inhabited areas to watch the sea for any oncoming hazards. These rises were called viglae ( word of Latin origin).Such a vigla (singular) was the place in which the vigla is now built.
